Championship Manager creators bought a footballer!
The history of football has seen many transfer absurdities – for instance in Romania where players were sold for a few hundred kilograms of meat. But this is something new. For the first time a computer game... became the owner of a real footballer.

These words begin an article in “Dziennik” daily newspaper about an actual story of an English footballer. To cut the long story short, the Championship Manager creators bought the player's card and sold him to the club. The full story is the following. Bedford Town could afford playing for a player recommended to the club's manager by Championship Manager. Using the game he searched for a suitable player for his club that was fighting to avoid relegation from Conference South but the player turned out to be too expensive. That's where the game came into action – the game producers, EIDOS and Beautiful Game Studio, bought the Chippenham Town player Adam Garner and subsequently sold it to Bedford Town for a lower fee. The case is unprecedented since it's the first time that a player is owned by a commercial organisation. “We are the creators, but also football fans. Without the passion the game wouldn't came to be,” said David Rutter representing the game developers. “It's a great thing to help somebody in such unusual way. I hope this wasn't our last player in real world,” he added.
