Users' hope for a decent gameplay before Xmas kindled by Paul Collyer.
Due to the number of bugs Football Manager 2009 does not seem to make a good present. The chances are high however, that it can make quite decent Christmas gift.

In the course of a discussion about the match engine bugs its main programmer, and Championship Manager series creator, Paul Collyer said that even though the release date of the second patch is yet unknown, it should be out before Christmas – depending on the tests.
In his utterance the older of Collyers also referred to the main issue – the problem with long shots that forwards supposedly try too often. He concluded that fixing this presumptive bug is not a priority, however the changes in the match engine made to fix other gameplay elements could also influence this particular issue. Nevertheless, Paul advises to check if the problem does not lie in players' preferred moves and suggests watching several matches in full to get to the root of the problem.
It is a fact that the bugs fall into two categories. There are the indisputable – connected with bugs in certain leagues and cup competitions, but there are also those that only some fans complain about. The aforementioned long shots issue or the injuries problem are hotly disputed and cause mixed reactions.
As for us there is nothing left but to wait for the fruit of the programmers' and testers' labour. Let us hope that we will pass Christmas time in domestic atmosphere with a playable version of Football Manager.
