§ Bugs and known issues

Armenia wins the European Championship
It is a bug which was supposed to affect only the illegal copies of the game. Sports Interactive did it all wrong though, as it turned out that the issue with teams such as Armenia, Kazakhstan or Azerbaijan qualifying for the Euro, happened on the legitimate versions as well. The bug was reported many times and SI finally sorted things out. The issue can be fixed with the 8.0.1 patch [download].

White screen
If you launch the game and get a white screen instead of the main menu, it means you installed graphics in the wrong location. In Football Manager 2008 graphic files must be put into the following directory: My documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/graphics. You do not have to create any additional folders in graphics directory, just paste the already unpacked folder downloaded from Internet, untick 'Use skin cache' (Preferences – Display & Sound) and tick 'Reload skin on confirm'. Before you do it, delete all the graphics content from the previous directory or reinstall the game to resolve the issue.

Missing msvcp71.dll file
If you launch the FM Data Editor and get an error message saying a file msvcp71.dll is missing, it means you do not have an essential file to run the editor. To stop this from happening download the missing file from this site and paste it into the Windows/system32 directory.

Crush Dumps
One of the most common issues which has not been entirely eliminated yet. It is recommended to delete the hidden crash dumps folder from SI directory in My documents.

Did not find font resource: vera
You may get this message when you do not have a “vera” font installed on your computer. There is a very easy way to avoid the problem. Just paste the files from the links below into Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/data/fonts directory. Two mirrors to choose from: first – Rapidshare, the other – Turboupload.

Teams outside South America playing in Copa America
CONMEBOL is made up of 10 countries from South America, while there is 12 teams participating in Copa America. To complete the twelve team tournament, two more teams are invited by CONMEBOL. Usually it is Mexico and USA, but the teams that have received the invitation in the past include Costa Rica, Honduras and even Japan. In FM a country that is often handed a “wild card” is England.

Squad registration bug in Spanish League
There is a serious bug in Football Manager even with the 8.0.1 patch installed. When playing a Spanish league you could usually play the players registered for the B and C teams in first team matches. However, when you register players to B and C teams, grey players will appear in your squad. Players from B and C teams are unable to play for the first team. A fix for this issue is included in 8.0.2 patch [download].

Disappearing players and transfers' history
If you see that you have lost players and transfers' history it means you saved your game by overwriting other “game save”. For example: you have got two game saves - Manchester United and Chelsea London which are from separate careers and you unintentionally save Man Utd over the already existent Chelsea. In this case you lose not only players and transfers history from Man Utd game save, but Chelsea game save as well.

§ Addons

Profesor's "Chocolate Box"
A set of files created by Profesor enabling you to manage any national team available in FM 2008 database (click here for more details). This addon includes:

# Alcohol-free version NTM – DDT file, keeps the existing worlds’ club squads which are big enough to enable you to manage national teams.
# High-proof version NTM – expanded 8.0.0 database – with players added to some countries for national teams to become ‘manageable’.

Sounds during match
If you are bored with default set of match sounds, you can download a FM 2008 Soundpack (click here for more details).

Fake
It is a *.lnc file, which restores the correct teams, competition names and adds real players to national teams of Germany, Japan and also (in the previous game versions) changes Jens Mustermann to Oliver Kahn. Fake can be downloaded from here.

How to uninstall patch/update
The official patches released by Sports Interactive are not as easy as the fans’ unofficial updates to uninstall. To remove fans’ updates (e.g..: Fudi & Messinho Revolution Update 2008) you just need to delete them from your disk. To uninstall official patches released by SI however, you need to reinstall the game.

The worst club
Do not know what club to manage? Maybe Frank will be able to help you. He will choose a club for you from the lowest leagues available in Football Manager (it is for FM 2006 and FM 2007 versions, but can be applied to FM 2008 as well).

Patches
Official patches released by creators of Football Manager – SI Games, designed to fix problems with the game. FM 2008 patches:

# 8.0.1 (22 November, 2007) – changelist and a file to download in FilePlanet
# 8.0.2 (14 February, 2008) – changelist and a file to download in FilePlanet

Config files

# EDT – used to modify game settings without having to edit data with editor.
# DDT – used to "keep" certain players (clubs and nations also) in a newly created game.

How to do it?

Create a new text file first, give it any name and the *.edt or .ddt extension, then open it in any text editor, e.g. Notepad. You can find the command list in Settings and other options section.

Where to put the files?
# Playing without the patch:
- paste .edt into: My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/data/db/edt
- paste .lnc into: My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/data/db/lnc

# Playing with the patch (8.0.1):
- paste edt into: My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/data/uptades/uptade_801/db/801/edt
- paste lnc into: My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/data/uptades/uptade_801/db/801/lnc

# Playing with the patch (8.0.2):
- paste edt and ddt into: My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/data/uptades/uptade_802/db/802/edt
- paste lnc into: My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/data/uptades/uptade_802/db/802/lnc

Updates
Updates are files which add to the game any modifications that can be made in the official editor. They are released by fans and have unofficial status. They may add new, unactive leagues to the game (e.g. Soviet League in FM 2008). Fans’ updates are usually released after the transfer window is closed (usually February and September).

Known updates:
# Fudi & Messinho Revolution Update 2008

§ Editing tools

§ Football Manager 2008

Bugs in the game

Bugs that affect the game and make it inconvenient or even impossible to play Football Manager. The only way to fix them is to install the latest patches released by SI Games.

Football Manager

Football Manager - is a football management simulation game. It was released after the split of SI GAMES/EIDOS, a duet which created famous Championship Manager series. SI GAMES were developers of the game and EIDOS were publishers. Football Manager is a true sequel of the CM series and its heir, which is developed by Sports Interactive and published by SEGA. Football Manager 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 are the versions released by the SI GAMES so far.

System requirements
# Minimum: Windows XP, 1,2GHz processor, 256MB RAM, DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card, 4x CD ROM, 1024x768 32bit display, 750MB free disk space, mouse and keyboard.
# Recommended: Windows XP/Vista, AMD or Intel Dual Core 2,2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card, 4x CD ROM, 1024x768 32bit display, 750MB free disk space, mouse and keyboard.

§ The game - general information

Fan day

You cannot arrange Fan Day yourself. A decision to arrange it is made by the board of your club either when the attendance is low or when you play home against a strong team. (it is not a rule!).

Finances

The finances section in FM includes club's bank balance, funds for transfers and wages. There are a few ways to keep an eye on your club's finances:
# control the wages, not to exceed wage budget set by your board.
# do not spend all of your money on transfers, if your bank balance is low.
# try to sign players on free-transfer more often.
# consider stadium expansion, when your bank balance is high, as it may give you a financial boost in the future.
# when you are in charge of a small and unknown club, offer contracts to "grey" players or play youth players.
# sometimes a new chairman steps in with lots of cash (sugar daddy), but it can be risky for you, as he may want a new manager and you may get sacked (do not expect a rich chairman to come to the club only because you are in financial trouble).
# a good way to improve your finances slightly is to find a decent parent club.

Contract clauses

# Minimum Fee Release Clause - a player with such clause may leave to a club which makes an offer equal to the minimum fee he has in his contract.
# Relegation Release Clause - if your team gets relegated, you may receive the amount of money specified in a player's contract.
# Manager/Coach Release clause - if a player with such clause wants to become a manager in other club, you may receive the amount of money specified in his contract.

Parent and Feeder Clubs
They make up a symbiotic pair - the first cannot exist without the other. Feeder Clubs are the clubs which set-up a relationship with a larger club and thus have a number of benefits: financial support, players from Parent Club, annual tournaments, friendly matches. In return a Parent Club has a right to first refusal on players from Feeder Club and can send reserve players to Feeder Club for experience. Being a Feeder Club is useful especially to english managers - if their player does not get a work permit, he is sent to a Parent Club to acquire European country citizenship there. Belgium is the most commonly used country, as there is no foreign player limit in Belgiam league and it takes only 3 years to receive Belgian citizenhip.

Team's morale
It is an extremely important thing. When there is low morale in the dressing-room, players will find it difficult to win matches due to their poor mental condition.

Follow these steps to maintain good morale - before the season:
# play friendlies with smaller clubs (which can be easily beaten by your side)
# the better side you play against in a friendly match, the higher the morale will be.

During the season:
# win matches - morale will be high
# offer better contracts
# try to motivate your players in the dressing-room

For certain players:
# praise them for their performances

Foreign players

The limit of foreign players employed at a club (examples):
# Poland - a maximum of 17 players (8 in a match squad)
# France - 4
# Italy - 1
# England - no limit; work permit required

Citizenship
It can be granted to a player if he spends a certain amount of time in a country (the amount of time for a foreigner to aqcuire citizenship may be different in each country). After a player spends a required number of days, he considers taking up citizenship (you as a manager cannot advance the process between 'Considering Citizenship' and 'Has Received Citizenship'). The number of days left to receive citizenship in a country can be seen at a Personal page in a player's profile. Whether a player receives citizenship of a country or not is dependent on two conditions:

# he must live and play for a few years at a club in the country
# he must be willing to get citizenship

If the conditions are met, citizenship can be granted to a player. Some managers might be disappointed to find that their players do not get citizenship, even if they have already lived long enough in their country. There are foreign player limits in some countries. When a player gets citizenship, an additional foreign player 'slot' becomes available.

Country list with required years of playing:
# England - 5 years

In Spain, players from the following countries can apply for citizenship after two years of playing: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Venezuela, Philippines, Equatorial Guinea, Andorra, Portugal. .

Bosman ruling
The ruling which applies to European Union countries. It allows you to sign a player on a free transfer once his contract has expired. You can also offer a contract to a player whose existing contract with a club expires in six months (but a player will move to your club at the end of his contract).

Regens
Also newgens - fictional players, which are created by a game engine (do not exist in real football). They appear before each season in the game, as youth players of your or any other club in the world. When your squad size is small, grey players may appear in your team. They are newgens/regens and will disappear as soon as your squad size gets bigger. They can play in your team but you cannot offer them full-time contracts.

NOTE: Regens, just like any other young players, may retire from football even at very young age (20 years) if they are not offered a contract for a longer time.

National team
A team consisting of the best players from a particular country. To take control over a national team, choose a nation you want to manage once you start a game and then confirm. You can also manage a national team while being a club manager. Win cups and trophies – become famous and wait for The Football Association of a country to offer you the position of national coach. If you notice that a national coach of a country has been sacked, you can apply for the position by clicking apply for the job button on national team page. When your application is successful you can then manage both a national team and your club. You cannot manage a club and a national team at one time when starting a game and choosing a desired national team.

Originally, the game allows you to manage national teams of the most popular countries. To be able to manage a national team of any country, install Profesor's Chocolate Box - an update which makes it possible.

Stadium
It is a very important facility of any sports club. Stadiums generate income for our club better than anything. The more supporters you attract to home matches, the bigger the club's budget will be. Stadium should not be considered as money making machine, though. Its running costs also affect our club's budget. It all depends on you whether the income is higher than the expenditure. The better your team's results, the higher the attendance, the higher the attendance, the more money, the more money, the better players coming to our club, the better the players, the better the results and that is what it is all about. Therefore, a stadium have a massive influence on your club's fortunes.

Its capacity is another important issue. The more seats a stadium has, the more money it generates. That is why it is worth to expand your club's stadium. Before you can do it, you will need some cash and board's agreement, though. If your club's board has already agreed on stadium expansion it will start with the next season and will take about 4-6 months. The board may not agree to expand the stadium in the event of poor financial condition, low attendance or due to a lack of agreement of the local residents (which is rather uncommon, but still may happen). Unfortunately, not every stadium can be expanded. If you are a successful manager, your club's board may decide to build a new stadium. A new stadium may be then named after a legendary manager of a club. It happens very rarely in the game and usually in lower league clubs e. g. in lower English leagues.

Tactic
You set tactics on your own because YOU are the manager. There is no killer tactic. There are plenty of tactics. You wonder which one to choose? Choose the one that suits the best to the style of your team. One rule to remember: when making a tactic - adjust it to the players you have got. It never works the other way round!

Transfers
A transfer occur when a player moves from one club to the other. FM without transfers would make no sense. The following are options thanks to which you can strengthen your squad:

# Definite transfer - in this case you are the only owner of a player. Most often you will have to pay to get him. A transfer fee can be reduced in a few ways, e.g. by making a higher bid firstly and then lowering it bit by bit until satisfactory price is agreed (sometimes clubs refuse such offers). When several clubs are making a bid for a player, you may outbid them with a higher offer and thus remain as the only club in the field interested in a player. You may then try to lower the price carefully.

# Loan - a player plays at your club for the agreed time, e.g. 3 or 6 months but no longer than 1 season. During the loan period you are obliged to pay a player's wages according to a deal (it can be 20%, 50% etc.) etc. Usually you do not have to pay to get the player on loan, however there may be additional fees involved in loan deals.

# Co-ownership - a player is owned by 2 clubs which agree which club he plays at in the first season, and then make bids once the season is over. A club which makes higher bid takes over full ownership of the player. To buy a player who is co-owned by two clubs you have to make offers to both clubs and negotiate with clubs involved in the deal individually (which usually does not pay off) . The option is available in Italian league.

# First option/refusal - this option allows to make a transfer bid equal to an offer made by any other club (your club has a right to first option). It is best to use this option to get promising youngsters, so that they can develop their skills better at their parent club.

# Free transfers - transfers where you do not have to pay anything to get a player, except his wages. Such transfers may be carried out only when a player is not contracted to any other club. You can find them by entering 'no club' in a search box or wait until their contract is expired (The Bosman ruling).

# Enquiry - an official request for information on a player's price send to other club's board. In reply to your enquiry you usually receive a specific price which is difficult to renegotiate. The desired transfer fee set by the club is often over-the-top. Sometimes you can get a player cheaper without making an enquiry.

Information concerning transfer rules in specific countries:

# France - Joker transfer period
It is a third transfer window in France and only in France. It allows you to sign one more player between 1.09 and 30.12, but from a French club only. The player can be normally registered to/for (domestic) league competition then.

# England
The transfer window is open between 01.07. and 31.08, free transfers can be made within a month after the transfer window is closed.

Coaches
They are very important in Football Manager, they are responsible for the development of our players and their attributes' growth. When assigning a coach to a specific training type, bear in mind his attributes:

# Strength - coach must be good at Fitness
# Aerobic - same as above, Fitness attribute important
# Shooting - Technical attribute
# Ball control - Technical + Attacking
# Defending - Defending attribute
# Attacking - Attacking attribute
# Set pieces - Technique, Mental, Attacking attribute
# Tactics - Tactical attribute

Once you have assigned a coach to a specified training type, his training abilities will be rated with stars. A maximum star rating a coach can get is 7, it is good to have 6 star rated training, so that it is effective and your players develop well.

The workload at each training category needs to be light, it will make players less prone to injuries. Sometimes you will have to employ more than one coach to get the light workload for a given category.

Training
It causes players' attributes to improve or drop. During the pre-season preparations consider focusing more on physical side of training i.e. by intensifying aerobic and stamina training for all players to help them return to a good shape. During the season you should assign players to a different training (positions/formations).

"Perfect training" - how to get 7 star rated training schedule:

A minimum attribute a coach needs to have in the given training category:

# Strenght - at least 18 in Fitness

# Aerobic - at least 18 in Fitness

# Goalkeeping - at least 18 in Coaching Goalkeepers

# Tactics - at least 18 in Tactical

# Ball control - either 18 both in Technical and Mental or 19 in Technical and 14 in Mental or 20 in Technical and 10 in Mental

# Defending - either 18 in Defending and 18 in Tactical or 19 in Defending and 14 in Tactical or 20 in Defending and 10 in Tactical

# Attacking - either 18 in Attacking and 18 in Technical or 19 in Attacking and 14 in Technical or 20 in Attacking and 10 in Technical

# Shooting - either 18 in Technical and 18 in Attacking or 19 in Technical and 14 in Attacking or 20 in Technical and 10 in Attacking

# Set-pieces:
- 17 in Technical + Mental and Attacking giving at least 39 in total.
- 18 in Technical + Mental and Attacking giving at least 36 in total.
- 19 in Technical + Mental and Attacking giving at least 33 in total.
- 20 in Technical + Mental and Attacking giving at least 30 in total..

Home-grown players
When a player is club-grown, it does not necessarily mean he has started his great (or not) career at this club. He just needs to train for 3 seasons at your club before turning 20 to be considered a club-grown player. If a player has trained for 2 years at your club before turning 20, he is considered a home-grown player then. The same applies if he has trained for the 2 years at two different clubs of the same country.

§ Gra - pytania

CA i PA
# CA - (Current Ability) indicates the level of a player’s ability at the beginning of the game.
# PA - (Potential Ability) indicates the maximum level of ability that a player can reach throughout the game.

CA and PA levels are defined by numbers from 0 to 200, the higher the number, the better the player (0 being the worst, 200 being the best).

In addition, PA may have minus values, which, however, does not mean that a player's ability is below 0 then. Each of minus PA values indicates how much the player's PA may develop within a given ability range. The following is a full list of minus PA attributes:
-10 = 170 - 200
-9 = 150 - 180
-8 = 130 - 160
-7 = 110 - 140
-6 = 90 - 120
-5 = 70 - 100
-4 = 50 - 80
-3 = 30 - 60
-2 = 10 - 40
-1 = 0 - 20
0 = random PA

CA and PA attributes are hidden, which means they are not visible during the game. You can view the hidden attributes with one of the editing tools: Football Manager Editor (FM Editor), Football Manager Modifier (FMM), Football Manager Genie Scout (FM Genie Scout).

Why there are no foreign players coming to my club?
When approaching a good foreign player to come to your club, keep in mind the following:

# Club reputation - your club must be well-known to attract foreign players, as they will not be willing to play for fringe clubs from lower leagues. It would be good if your club was successful both in domestic and international competitions. You can check the reputation of a club in the editor or FMM. Club reputation can range from 1 to 10000 (1 being the worst, 10000 being the best).

# Country reputation - a country in which a foreign player is to play, must be well-known and have good national team. You can check the reputation of a country in the editor or in FMM. Country reputation can range from 1 to 10000 (1 being the worst, 10000 being the best).

# League reputation - the league you are playing in must be well-know and highly respected to attract a foreign player. You can check the reputation of a league in the editor or FMM. League reputation can range from 1 to 20 (1 being the worst, 20 being the best).

# Country development - a country in which a foreign player is to play, and the standards of living must be up to his expectations. Country development levels fall into three categories: the Third World countries, the developing countries and the developed countries. The first category countries are the worst to live in and foreign players will be reluctant to play there, while the last category countries are the most attractive ones. You can check the development level of a country in the editor or FMM. Country development can range from 1 to 20 (1 being the worst, 20 being the best).

# Economic factor - a country in which a foreign player is to play, and the standards of living must be up to his expectations. You can check the economic factor of a country in the editor or FMM. Economic factor can range from 1 to 20 (1 being the worst, 20 being the best).

To sum up, the more known and developed the country is and the better league it has, the more willing the foreign players are to play for the country's clubs.

Fake players in Germany

Fake players Football Manager result from the lack of license rights for the names of players from some countries. The same applies to Oliver Kahn, known as Jens Mustermann in the game, which is a result of the lack of license rights for the name of this player. For FM geeks, there are always ways to get such things around, though. Just delete the Inc folder from the database files or paste a downloaded or edited by us 'fake' file to this folder (change this line: FAKE_NATIONAL_TEAM to 0).

Unlocking an additional league during the game

You cannot add an active and playable league once the game is under way. You cannot add players to the game either. Therefore, if you want to use the 'Load all players from' option, you have to start the game once again.

Huge database

The largest database available in Football Manager. With a huge database running, you can find much more players than on a Large one. Unfortunately, when using a huge database, you may experience slower performance. Therefore, for optimal performance, it is recommended that you use a huge database on a high-end machine.

Work permit

Work permit is a legal document required by some European Union countries that restricts the number of foreign players coming to work (players outside EU). The countries, which require work permit, are England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland and Iceland. When you manage a club from one of these countries, you may sometimes not be able to buy a player who has been denied a work permit. A player must meet the following requirements in order to be granted a work permit:

# Has played in at least 70% of the first national team's matches during the last two years.
# A country that a foreign player comes from must be ranked at least 70th in the world.
# When a player is rejected a work permit, you can always appeal against the decision.
# You can send a player on loan to European Union feeder clubs (get a player and loan him from your club, MU for example, to a Dutch feeder club, where he will eventually gain European Union Citizenship).
# A player with higher attributes (CA and PA especially), with some experience and with international appearances is more likely to get work permit.
# Higher squad status set when offering a contract to a player may also be helpful.
# Players who temporarily are not on long-term deals, but are brought to clubs for trials, do not need work permit.

Work permit is not required from citizens of European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. These countries, even though they do not belong to EU, are treated like ones because of their high economic level.

Talents

Young, sometimes even very young players, which have very high attributes despite their age and have all the characteristics of future football stars. Their potential and skill are measured by PA and CA. Please refer to Talents section on the CM Revolution website.

League choice

The number of selected leagues should be determined by the hardware specification of your computer. The faster computer you have (amount of RAM and processor), the more leagues you can select. For slower PCs (RAM 512 MB or less, processor 1,8 GHz or slower) it is better to select a few leagues, because the speed of the game may significantly decrease. With a decent configuration (1 GB RAM or more, dual-core processor) you can enjoy a longer game with several leagues selected.

§ Graphics

FM graphic addons
# Facepacks - photos of players and staff
# Logopacks - logos of clubs and national teams
# Kitpacks - shirts of clubs and national teams
# Backpacks - background pictures for clubs and national teams
# Skins - addons that make your FM look different from the original
# Match graphics - popups, that is background, on which text commentary is displayed during the match, and also balls, nets.

Graphic add-ons installation

Graphic files installation directory in FM 2008 is different from previous FM versions. If you have downloaded graphic files such as facepacks, logopacks, kitspacks and other, put it to: My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/graphics/pictures. You can also create additional folders (kits, logos, faces) in pictures directory, to keep order. When you run the game, go to Preferences -> Display & Sound and tick "Always reload skin on confirm".

Paste your skin files to: My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/skins.

NOTE: do not put graphic files into data folder in the main directory of the game!

§ The Internet

Router and firewall configuration

Sometimes players cannot connect even though they both have compatible game versions and a person hosting the game has an external IP addresses. In most cases, it is because of game port blocking by some hardware or software. You should then unblock manually the ports that Football Managers uses: 10094 TCP and 10093 UDP.

Public game servers

There are no public servers, which you could connect to and play along with other managers, as in many multiplayer games. In Football Manager, online game is available only when you connect to the other player's computer, whose address is his own IP number. You can also host the game yourself by checking the box "run as a server". Then your IP number is an address of the game server.

§ Prompter

Main informations

It is a place where you can get help from other FM geeks. Any problems? Try searching for the answer in the Prompter. Also remember to see the FAQ – the answer to your questions might be there. Still no answer? Why not ask for help in the Prompter, where other revolutionaries may help. If you find somebody’s answer helpful, you can give a point to a user. To use the Prompter, you must abide by the rules that apply to this section.

FAQ

FAQ is a list of common questions and answers, which were frequently posted in the Prompter. If you post a message with a question that is answered in the FAQ, you may be given a warning from the moderators.

Ranks

A user who creates a new topic may find an answer provided by another user helpful, in which case ‘helped’ status appears next to a nickname of a user who helped to solve a problem. If you click this status, a user gets a point. When you get a specified number of points, your rank indicator next to your nickname changes, depending on how many points you get:

# 0-10 - Partisan - a member of an irregular military force opposing control of an area by enemy forces.

# 11-25 - Young Activist – the most active, socially and politically-minded, standing out from a social group, team, organisation and so on, a party’s hard core activist.

# 26-50 - Ideological Front Soldier - an ideological activist inspired from abroad aiming to subvert the state authorities.

# 51-100 - Udarnik - a superproductive worker in the People's Republic of Poland.

# 101-200 - Revolutionary Ideas Propagator - an activist who advocates and engages in carrying out the revolutionary change of political system, government or organizational structures.

# 201-... - Eastern Front Veteran - The Great Patriotic War participant.

Reactionary

It is a penalty for not observing the rules in the Prompter. When you receive a penalty, your green nick and rank changes to orange and the rank is Reactionary. Reactionaries cannot add pictures when commenting, which limits their activity. Reactionary rank is also a warning, just like a yellow card in football. When you receive "orange penalty" you are obliged to improve your behaviour in the Prompter.

Reactionary: denotes the counter-revolutionaries aiming to restore the real or imagined state.

Public Enemy
Public Enemy is, like Reactionary, a form of a punishment for improper activity in the Prompter. It is a punishment for common rules violation. Such user is excluded from the Prompter and user’s account is banned. Our nick turns red and the rank is Public Enemy. The only way for a ban to be taken away is to send an e-mail at redakcja@cmrev.com. Your request must be supported by strong arguments, as the status is put on unruly and commonly violating rules users.

Public Enemy: term used in the Soviet Union (especially during the Stalinist period) as a designation of a communist opponent.

Topic search

Topic search is an important feature of the Prompter. Before creating a new topic, type a phrase in the Search topic box and press ENTER – it will search through all the secret files for a desired phrase and maybe it will find something helpful. You are obliged to search through the resources available in the Prompter before asking for help, as your question may be already answered by the CM Revolution community. Posting questions that are already answered is not welcome by moderators and some Prompter users.

Rules

A set of standards, rules and regulations that a user is obliged to obey in the Prompter. Not observing the rules may results in a ban.

§ Technical

Game installation
The detailed information on the game installation can be found in the game manual, page4.

RAM and processor

RAM and processor are the most important PC-components for FM. As you play the game, saved game files gets bigger and stores a lot of information, so the better your computer is, the more smoothly the game will run (especially when you have played a lot of seasons). At least 1GB of RAM is required to make the game run smoothly. A dual-core processor is recommended, such as AMD Athlon or Intel Core 2 Duo.

Sample configurations:
# 2 GB RAM + dual-core processor - 20 leagues and more for a longer game (10-15 seasons) with 10 additional countries loaded.
# 1 GB RAM + single-core processor 1,3 GHz - 7 leagues + 3 additional countries + medium database.

§ Settings and other options

PConfiguration files - options
# Boost Teams

With this command you can change financial status, reputation and and stadium capacity (in this order) of a club. For example:

"BOOST_TEAM" "Pelikan" 30000000 6000 25000

Adding this line in EDT file will make Pelikan Lowicz a club with a 30 mln pound bank balance, 6000 reputation (10000 is a maximum), and 25000-seater stadium. As in Swap Teams command, you can use club’s ID instead of its name.

# Future Transfer

Add this line to .edt (give it any name), to make a transfer without editing the game database.

"FUTURE_TRANSFER" "Cristiano" "" "Ronaldo" "Man Utd" "Pelikan" 01 01 2008 1000 200 5

Notes:

- player’s name is in the first quote;
- player’s nickname is in the second (leave it as it is, if a player has no nickname);
- player’s surname is in the third;
- club’s name is in the fourth (short name – the one you see in league tables);
- new club’s name is in the fifth;
- three numbers stand for a transfer date in dd/mm/yy format;
- next number (for example 1000) is a transfer fee (in pounds);
- next number (also in pounds) stands for player’s wages in a new club (-1 for random, but reasonably depending on a club’s stature);
- last number stands for a contract length in years.

# Retain Player(s)

When using this command you can ensure our favourite player or his teammates will be in the game, even running on a small database. For example:

"RETAIN_PLAYER" "434121"
"RETAIN_PLAYERS" "Nipikinamu"

The first line adds to the game a new player - Ivoki Kaltak. The second line adds to the game all players from his club, which is Nipikinamu.

# Retain Nations Players

Adds all players from a given country:

"RETAIN_NATION_PLAYERS" "Vanuatu"

Of course, you can type any country in place of Vanuatu (on condition a country is included in the FM database).

# Swap Teams

Use this command to swap two teams from different leagues. The following example:

"SWAP_TEAMS" "Legia" "Celtic"

will make, Legioners play in the Scottish Premier League, and the Celts in the Polish First Divison. Instead of clubs’ names you can use their ID (you can view it in the editor, FMM and in the game itself if the "Show ID" box is selected).

Recording a game

1) To record a game, you will need to:

# get HyperCam2 application – here is a link to test version. The best is to buy a full version, for a non-limited use.

# run Football Manager, load a match you want to record. It is best to set the highlights speed slider to about 0,2 of its size (view), as HyperCam2 tends to make the recordings faster than they really are. Next, run HyperCam2 and press F2 and that is about all! Recording is in progress! To stop recording, press F2 and the video file is ready.

# It is best to look through the options available in HyperCam2 to learn of key-combinations or to choose output file format, screen size you want to capture and so on.

2) Record your match:
A match is over and you see a result that you would like to preserve for future generations. What to do? Football Manager allows to save the match to a .pkm file. How to do it? It is very easy. From the left menu bar, click ‘Save’ (view) and you will be prompted to name your .pkm file. Type a name and click ‘Save’ once again. A file is saved!

When we finally leave this world, future generations may wish to explore the past and see if their ancestors did well or not. Treasure seekers can use the ‘View Match’ option in the main menu, locate a file they want to view, and then load it.

Screen

In-game screenshots can be taken in two ways:

# Press ALT + F9, and a screenshot is saved in: My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/screenshots.
# Press Print Screen during the game, open a graphic editor (for example MS Paint), and then paste you screen (Ctrl+ V). Save your screen as a .jpeg file.

Running the game in a window

To run the game in a window mode, right-click the Football Manager icon, and then add -small_screen –windowed", in the Target box.

Your command line should look like this:

"C:/Program Files/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/fm.exe" -small_screen -windowed"

Changing screen resolution

To run the game in a desired resolution in the full screen mode, select the "Full screen mode" option in the Preferences. The game should be run with an appropriate parameter. Add this to your command line:

[ --fullscreen_width=Y --fullscreen_height=X] - bez nawiasów kwadratowych. X - oznacza rozdzielczość w pionie, a Y - w poziomie, np. chcemy grać w rozdzielczości 1280x1024 - musimy dodać taki wpis: [ -- fullscreen_width=1280 --fullscreen_height=1024].

Where is a command line? Some people may need an explanation of what a command line is, so here it is. You need to have a shortcut to FM, right-click in and click Properties. A window appears, as shown in the attached picture. The command line is marked in red. You add a text after the quotation marks, inserting an extra space before a text.
